More moisture analysers for BHP Billiton

INTALYSIS has announced it will deliver six more of its moisture analysers to BHP Billiton’s iron ore expansion project.

The Low Frequency Microwave (LFM) moisture analysers will be used to manage dust build up in BHP’s mines and ports. The miner had previously used the equipment to monitor the finer goethitic ores produced at its Area C and Yandi facilities.

The developer says the units will monitor the level of moisture content in the iron ore to prevent dust formation. A certain amount of moisture must be maintained in order to avoid any dust accumulation. However, if too much water is applied, the material can become sticky and can cause handling blockages.

Both the device and the company were recently recognised with the Frost and Sullivan 2008 Technology Innovation Award.
