SIEMENS has released a radar system for level measurement in a variety of solid materials. The SITRANS LR 469 radar transmitter uses 24gHZ frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) technology to measure solids like cement powder, coal, gypsum, flour, grain and plastics. The company says the device can be used in situations with high temperatures, high dust concentrations and long ranges up to 100m. The manufacturer claims the unit has an improved antenna system and higher gain with an increased signal-to-noise ratio of 20dB. This allows for the detection of very low dielectric constant materials at long ranges.
